Between staging and real life
Mallorca is a place where light changes everything.
Those of us who work in audiovisual production as a photographer or a videographer know it well: every sunrise by the sea, every golden stone in the old town, every sunset among almond trees can be the beginning of a different visual story.
For us at Al Aire Films, producing here is not just a technical process — it’s a sensory and human experience that shapes everything we create.

The difference between filming a commercial and covering an event
Although both formats share the same tools — cameras, lights, sound, and visual rhythm — their narrative essence is very different.
In a commercial or branded production, everything is designed to express a clear idea. The rhythm, the light, the framing — every decision reinforces a message or emotion connected to a brand.
A good example is the winter fashion campaign we filmed for Abbacino, a Mallorca-based brand from Petra. We wanted to convey the brand’s Mediterranean essence, so we shot outdoors during the island’s winter season — when the light is at its best, soft and golden almost all day. The result was a series of natural, timeless images that highlight the textures, tones, and calm elegance of the collection.
When we cover an event, the story unfolds in real time.
The challenge is not to direct but to anticipate moments, moving with enough sensitivity so the camera captures emotion without interrupting it.
For instance, in the video we produced for Speexx, we documented an international corporate event, focusing on real interactions and spontaneous energy rather than scripted moments.
Both formats require a trained eye, but the energy on set is completely different.
Where a commercial seeks visual and emotional impact through planning and design, an event captures emotional connection through presence and timing.
Mallorca as a stage: the advantages of producing here
Producing in Mallorca has something truly special. The island offers unmatched natural light — soft and warm for most of the year. In winter, clear days allow for a wide light range; in summer, the Mediterranean sun invites you to play with contrasts, shadows, and reflections.
Mallorca also condenses a surprising diversity of landscapes: beaches, forests, stone villages, modern architecture, and mountains — all within less than an hour’s drive. That makes it an ideal filming location for both international brands and local projects.
The challenges of producing on the island
Of course, there are challenges too. During high season, permits and logistics require more planning. The Mediterranean climate, while generous most of the year, can become intense in summer — with strong sunlight and high temperatures around midday. And in summer, the island is simply packed with tourists everywhere, which makes finding quiet, accessible locations a real challenge for any production.
Telling stories with Mediterranean light
Whether it’s a carefully designed brand campaign or the intimate coverage of a live event, producing in Mallorca always offers one great opportunity: to capture authenticity in a unique setting. For us, it’s about telling real stories with cinematic aesthetics, finding the balance between the planned and the spontaneous.
Each project reminds us why we chose this island as one of our bases. Mallorca has that perfect mix of creative energy, cultural diversity, and natural beauty that inspires you to see differently.
